FOOD forest W/O SWALES ESTABLISHMENT PROTOCOL (SPRING PLANTING)
Welcome, on this page you’ll find the food forest establishment protocol that’s specifically developed for a scenario where you want a food forest WITHOUT swales and plant everything in the SPRING.
The protocol consists of six tasks executed in this order: 1) Plan the food forest, 2) Define a layout, 3) Site clearing, 4) Staking out the layout, 5) Planting, and 6) Mulching.
The difference between this and ‘Food Forest With Swales Establishment Protocols’ is that there is no need to test the soil for earthworks, doing the site survey for it, and the installation of swales. Instead, once the site is cleared you simply stake out the layout and you can plant immediately.
These tasks are performed in the narrow late winter to late spring window.
